With Chery Autos’ assistance, Huawei is expanding its presence in the electric vehicle market, and we now know when the first production model from their joint venture will be released. According to the South China Morning Post, Luxeed plans to introduce its coupe-style S7 in China in late November.
The Luxeed S7 may be able to stand out in an increasingly competitive EV market because of its combination of Huawei technology and Chery’s manufacturing expertise. Clearly, the automobile has some confidence as well. In a number of ways, it will be better than Tesla’s Model S, according to Richard Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei’s automotive division.
The South China Morning Post reported that the ceremony did not reveal the EV’s range, price, or technological capabilities. The S7 will, however, be built on the state-owned Chery E0X platform, which is intended for two-motor, all-wheel-drive EVs, as revealed in August.
In terms of EVs, this isn’t exactly Huawei’s first venture. In 2021, the business worked with the manufacturer Seres to launch the Aito brand (which Huawei now fully controls). The M5, Aito’s first all-electric vehicle, was introduced in 2014. In December, Aito will begin shipping its M9 luxury electric SUV to China. With its Huawei HI intelligent automobile solution, which comes with a 4D imaging radar and an autonomous driving platform, Huawei has also been supplying other automakers.
But don’t anticipate Luxeed’s S7 to arrive in the US or Africa any time soon, if ever. Sanctions against Huawei are still in effect in the nation.
