MTN Uganda has been named the official telecoms partner to supply necessary internet connectivity, with Uganda set to host the much awaited 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77 + China Third South Summits.
The Ugandan government expressed its gratitude to the telecom business today through Dr. Amina Zawedde, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT.
In order to guarantee that delegates have access to Uganda’s most extensive voice and data service, she says MTN, in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission and the Ministry of ICT, has supplied 500 “tourist” sim cards with free voice (120 minutes) and a lightning-fast data (5G) combo.
During the 2nd Uganda – South Africa Trade and Investment summit, which took place in September 2023, MTN invented the tourist sim.
MTN Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Sylvia Mulinge, welcomed guests to the Republic of Uganda and said, “Uganda is not just a location for MTN; it is our home.” Uganda, in turn, finds a home at MTN. We extend a hearty welcome to all delegates to the Pearl of Africa, and we cordially invite you to come and feel the warmth, beauty, and promise that our dear country possesses. MTN Uganda is dedicated to making sure the NAM/G77 Summits are a success, and it is an honour to be acknowledged and named as their official telecoms provider. “This cooperation is the proof of our commitment to playing a critical role in promoting unity, the economic growth of our nation, and the general well-being of its people,” the speaker continued.
MTN’s extraordinary commitment was acknowledged by Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, who said, “We thank MTN for continuously investing in the progress of our country both in the sector and through other collaborative initiatives with the government.”
